Man Burned at Metals Recycling Yard

The Schnitzer employee was airlifted with severe burns after an accident with a welding torch.

A Schnitzer worker yesterday was severely burned at the company's Cartersville metals recycling yard. The man was airlifted to an area hospital following an accident with a cutting torch, reports.

Part of one of nation's largest recyclers of scrap metal, Schnitzer Southeast in Cartersville accepts materials at its Industrial Drive location and offers container service, pick up and delivery, and a scrap management program.

Early this year, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration said it cited a Schnitzer metals recycling yard in Massachusetts with 10 allegedly "serious" violations of workplace safety standards after two employees were injured inside a large, rotating drum used to sort scrap material for recycling.
