The opening of "the biggest thing Bartow has seen" has been pushed back to 2014, according to a new LakePoint Sporting Community & Town Center promotional video.
The 1,200-acre development in Emerson—to include a 300-acre sports complex for baseball, lacrosse and soccer tournaments; business, retail and entertainment offerings; and recreation and other areas—was first scheduled to open this month. Last year, officials said the first pitch, kick and shot were slated for 2013.
The new video says LakePoint will create 26,000 jobs, host 4 million visitors a year and include "an international-caliber track and field center" in addition to numerous other facilities, plans for which were announced earlier.
