Homeless Man's Body Found Behind Fitness Center

Cartersville police investigators believe the victim died of natural causes.

A homeless white male was found earlier today behind the BodyPlex in Cartersville.

The body was discovered by one of the deceased man's friends, who also is a homeless individual, according to Captain Mark S. Camp of the Cartersville police department.

There were no signs of injury or trauma, Camp said. The death appears to be from natural causes.

The subject was approximately 40 years old.

Are there going to be any tests done on the body to see EXACTLY what killed him?

I hope there will be an autopsy? Plus request a picture requesting next of kin identification. I find this so sad. No one should be on the street to die, so young. Please, give him dignity. Thank you.

How utterly, utterly sad. I believe he may have been going to/coming from behind the movie theater. People live in the woods directly behind it. I like to walk and one evening I cut through the back of the theater, thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye, walked a few steps back and looked closer into the woods (real smart, right?). Tents, about 5 of them, with people there. What I saw was a man flipping out a towel or something then hanging it up, maybe to dry it. Having worked in Atlanta my entire career spanning over 25 years, I hate to say this but I got used to seeing people lying on grates trying to keep warm, people huddling together, there was a family - father, mother, young child, a lot of mornings I would see them huddled in the corner of my building trying to stay warm. You expect this (?) in the city but it's very disconcerting to know it's almost in your own back yard, in Cartersville no less.

The GBI Crime Lab will do an autopsy, homeless or rich.

His name is Larry (Catfish) Tapp. He was a very sweet man and will be missed by all who knew him. I saw him every week and knew the struggles he dealt with. He is with our Heavenly Father now and finally free from the pains and addictions in his life. His family at Bethel Worship Center will mourn his passing and carry on our ministry as he would have wanted for all of his friends. God speed Catfish. You are home!
