GOP Straw Poll Has Candidates Neck and Neck

Bartow County Republican Party released the results of its Independence Day Straw Poll conducted at Dellinger Park in Cartersville.

The 225 straw poll ballots collected July 4 by the local GOP may indicate several tight local races for the July 31 Republican primary.

Bartow County Republican Party's Independence Day Straw Poll—which is not scientific—was conducted during Stars, Stripes & Cartersville at Dellinger Park in Cartersville following a parade downtown.

In poll results, two candidates for Bartow commissioner were neck and neck—Michael Abernathy and Steve Taylor. But two more—Mike Bearden and Tracy Lewis—were not far behind.

Sheriff Clark Millsap got 15 more votes than challenger Dan Knowles, while 60 percent of straw poll voters went for Greg Bowen over Anna Sullivan in the county school board District 5 race.

See the full results attached to this article or at bartowgop.com.

I imagine these results will change since it was just revealed that Melba Scoggins voted in the Democrat presidential Primary, meaning she had to have voted for either Hillary or Obama. And that's not the only time she voted in Democrat primaries. Here's a link showing how all of the local candidates voted in recent years. http://www.bartowpolitics.com/uploads/2012_Candidate_Voting_Record.pdf

Interesting, but I wonder why you hide who you are.

Todd I'm not hiding and I'm not out to get Melba. Vicki Tatum Beck, who is runing for Tax Commissioner has the same problem. And Anna Sullivan who is running as a Republican for county school board has never voted in a Republican Primary.

Would you mind explaining what it is?

Larry all of the voting data on every single registered voter in GA is public information. Give me your full name and address and I can tell you every time you voted and which ballot (GOP or Democrat) you chose.

Larry, all the data shows is if someone voted, and if a primary, whether that person pulled a Democrat or Republican ballot. We have no way of knowing who you voted for in said election unless you tell us. This is not private information. Like Katherine said, it is all public record. Anyone can buy the entire state from the secretary of state's office and they let you download voting history as far back as 1996. It is updated frequently by the SOS office. By the way, we looked, and you must not be a registered voter, because there are two Welshes in the database for Bartow County, neither named Larry. This is a database last updated on June 4th. If you think this is an error, you better go visit the elections office and get it straightened out, or you won't be able to vote in the next election.

Oh, and anyone is free to pull my voting record and my teaching license, and also my husband's. That's all public record too. I'll just tell you I've only missed one election since I moved to Georgia, a runoff election in August 1998, before early voting was allowed in this state, because my second baby was born the night before and they wouldn't let me just leave to go vote...and I'm not afraid for anyone to see how often and which ballot I pulled.

Larry, if Melba had been a member of the Libertarian Party I'd still have considered voting for her, but anyone who votes for Hillary or Obama has shown they don't have the intelligence to represent me in any office.

I think that political leanings are a very critical factor in determining which candidate to vote for, or against. Not all democrats are lefties, nor all republicans righties, though you can certainly make generalizations about their leanings--especially given who is the current occupant of the White House. As far as Larry goes, I consider him a worthy adversary and we fight constantly, and very civilly I might add. And Larry, I believe you have upped the ante just a bit with the above comment. Hoods ain't got nothin' to do with her comments. Last I checked, Hillary is a pasty face LOL

Larry, you just admitted that you don't vote and aren't even registered.

Therefore, I will no longer argue anything political with you, nor listen to your criticisms of the system/government/politicians/political parties. Until you prove that you are willing to do something other than complain on the internet, it is pointless for those of us that vote and are active in political circles to argue with you.

Sorry Larry..doesn't wash in even leftist circles. Terms like hoods and purity have their own contextual meanings among us washed folks. I think you stepped in it :>

Larry, ever heard of Thomas Paine? His "Common Sense" brochures were published and distributed anonymously. There are reasons some people have to be careful stating who they are on this forum. Kat or one of her family members may work for the county.

Larry, you can look me up. My real name is Melissa Huneke. I operate Bartowpolitics.com with my husband, Michael Huneke. We are both really easy to find on the internet. We provide voting records of candidates along with links to their websites and their publicly available campaign finance records and also run campaign data on occasion for paying customers. There is nothing shady about it, it isn't cyber-snooping. There are a lot of companies that provide mailing lists, phone lists, and other such services, and the campaign mail houses make a lot of money using this publicly available information for state and local candidates every election cycle. Why in heaven's name would you accuse me of hiding behind a false name? I can assure you that there are so few Hunekes in the state of Georgia, and really in the whole country, that we can all pretty much trace ourselves back to two common ancestors (at least, my husband's family can...since I have married into it.)

Again, you don't care enough to even vote....you said so yourself...and yet you level baseless accusations at people....

OK Larry. Based on that, I will now presume a misunderstanding. Much like a tax is a penalty perhaps. I withdraw my original accusation and will so delete. See, we can hold hands and sing Kum-bye-ah

Larry, no one is stalking you. You said we had your full name, I looked in our voter database, you weren't there. I don't really care who you are or where you live. How would I know if Larry Welsh is your real name? I can guarantee you I wouldn't make up the name of a specific person with a name held by only one other person in the county if I wished to remain anonymous, so you can be assured that is my real name.

You can continue to bash me and KM, but the fact remains that I have been using my real name the entire time. It is no secret that my husband and I own Bartowpolitics.com. We use our real names there too. Michael was Bartow GOP chairman for 6 years, we both have held teaching licenses in the state of Georgia, and Michael is a public employee for the state department of ed. None of that is a secret. My only point in inviting you to look at our teaching licenses is that there is certain information that is publicly available and if it is out there, I know people will look it up. You appear to be a very angry man. Might I suggest you put some of that anger to use and go work for a cause you believe in instead of accusing those of us active in local issues of "stalking" and prying into private affairs that aren't really private??

Larry, if it was meant to be private, the state wouldn't make it available to whoever wants it.

That's okay....we aren't doing anything illegal or wrong by posting the voting habits of candidates for public office, and we know it. You don't vote, so I don't know why this makes you so angry. You can protect the "privacy" of your voting habits by continuing to be a non-voter, and that's fine, but please stop complaining about the way things come out when you are unwilling to go do something about it.

Larry - (1) I posted first and then you chimed in, I'm not stalking you. (2) If you can't figure out that Katherine is a woman's name, then??? (3) When a person offers themselves up as a candidate their life become public fodder. It's been like that since the founding of this republic. (4) Whether a person is running for some low-level county office or legislature or congress, etc - I want know their core ideology. That includes knowing whether they tend to suport conservative or liberal candiates. (5) Melba voted in the 2008 Democrat presidential primary. That means she voted for either Hillary or Obama. Both are hardcore leftists. I can tell from her vote that I do not want her in any office representing me. Romney, McCain, and Huckabee were still fighting for the GOP nomination at that time and GA was in play - if she was a conservative she would have pulled a Republican ballot. (6) Some may say it doesn't matter about ideology in office like Clerk of Court. I disagree. Some people use these lower office as stepping stones for higher office. They also provide a foundation for others seeking higher office. We need to weed the leftists out before they get a foothold. (Last) I would never vote for a Democrat or a liberal, but I am not Republican. I have voted for some Liberatarians. So you can drop the Saddam one party diatribe. Is that a phone ringing? Larry it's Rite Aid, your meds are ready.
