Crash Kills Man, Entraps Woman

A pickup truck pulling a trailer carrying another vehicle crossed several lanes of traffic before flipping on Interstate 75 in Cartersville.

A man was killed and a woman injured and entrapped in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 75, Cartersville Police Department Lt. Mark Camp said in an email.

A 2004 Dodge pickup truck occupied by a Florida couple was pulling a trailer carrying another vehicle when shortly before 7 last night it crossed several northbound lanes of traffic and flipped near exit 290. The truck came to rest in a ditch.

The driver, a 65-year-old man from St. Augustine, died in the accident. The passenger, a 64-year-old St. Augustine woman who rescuers removed from the truck using the jaws of life, was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with internal injuries.

The crash left only two lanes open as crews cleared the scene. The cause of it is unknown at this time.

Last night, names were being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The crash is still under investigation.
