Updated: Cartersville Woman Killed at Bartow's Barnsley Gardens Had Recently Divorced

Authorities say the shooter was the woman's ex-husband, who fled into the woods, where he was found dead by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Updated 4 p.m.

Authorities say the man and woman killed in an early-morning shooting had divorced in January.

They identified the woman shot at Barnsley Gardens Resort as Angela Player, 37, of Cartersville, according to a Bartow County Sheriff's Office release. The man found deceased in the woods after a search of the area was Robert Wade Brazell, 42, of Kingsland.

Player, the apparent victim of domestic violence killed in a murder-suicide, was a longtime employee of the upscale boutique resort in Adairsville.

"Barnsley Gardens Resort is a close-knit family and this unprecedented tragedy is felt across the resort," General Manager Michael Gordon said in a statement. "We grieve for the loss of our friend and colleague, a warm and caring woman who worked devotedly alongside us for nearly 5 years.

"Our thoughts, prayers and support are with her family at this time. We want to thank the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism and expedient work this morning. This tragic incident serves to reinforce and remind us all of the serious nature of domestic violence."

Original Report

Bartow County authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide at an upscale resort near Cartersville.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a statement that deputies were called to Barnsley Gardens Resort near Adairsville at 2:40 a.m. to reports a female clerk had been shot. The man who allegedly shot her had fled into nearby woods.

Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies, Georgia State Patrol troopers and even a police helicopter searched for the shooter, but he was found dead, apparently killed by a self-inflicted gunshot.

The woman was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Authorities aren't releasing their names at this time and believe the incident to be one of domestic violence. They say no other suspects are at large.

This is such a shame. If Angela would have had a gun she could have protected herself from this monster. In the gun debate that is now in the news, stories like this are sadly forgotten. The 2nd Amendment is meant to protect innocent victims like Angela from her abusive and now murdering ex-spouses.
