Classes to Benefit Artist in Cancer Battle

Diane Vehar, who works in Cartersville and is in her second bout with the disease, is set to host "Art with Soul".

Three upcoming art classes will benefit an artist and teacher as she battles cancer for the second time.

Diane Vehar—Powder Springs resident and sales and marketing manager for Signs & More in Cartersville—will host and teach "Art with Soul" at her house on:

  • Friday, June 8 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 9 at 2 p.m.
  • Monday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m.

The classes will include instruction on canvas painting. The $30 donation covers the materials and will go to Vehar's medical treatment and bills.

Vehar, a mother of three, is a breast cancer survivor and is now battling thyroid cancer. She lost her husband in 2010.

"My life for many years has been an open book," she said. "Something that might be helpful to know is how much painting can reduce stress, and hanging out with friends, etc. also, so an evening out doing this is awesome.

"Don't be afraid if you aren't an artist because the main gist of the evening is to paint some stress away, and then add a focal point such as a symbol of what you are striving for in life, an inspirational phrase—short one or even one word—or a short Bible verse. Something to give you a boost each time you see it. Something to give you hope, drive and inspiration."

Attendees are asked to bring a hors d'oeuvre and their preferred beverage, including wine or beer.

RSVP to Sandy Kaechar at sandykaecher@aol.com or Rob DeSotoat at citrusolutionwcobb@gmail.com, and they will provide the exact address of the classes. For more information, contact Kaecher at 678-492-5350.
