Cartersville Little League Gears Up for 2011
Two registration sessions are upcoming, with clinics, tryouts, drafts and preseason practice.
Half a foot of snow may not bring to mind baseball season, but it's right around the corner. The Cartersville Little League, which operates major and minor leagues for children ages 8 to 12, is gearing up for the 2011 season.
While registration is held throughout clinics, tryouts and preseason practice, two additional sign-up Saturdays remain: Jan. 22 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aubrey Street gym. Clinics are set for Saturday, Feb. 5, and Sunday, Feb. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Clearwater Street Park's Rudy York Field.
Parents must provide a child's birth certificate and proof of residency at sign-up.
A kickoff banquet is set for Tuesday, Feb. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cartersville Civic Center, and preseason practice is scheduled to begin Feb. 22. Opening day is March 12.
Minor league teams are the A's, Giants, White Sox, Nationals, Reds, Mets, Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles, Pirates and Angels. Teams in the major league are the Phillies, Indians, Padres, Braves, Crackers, Tigers, Dodgers and Colts.
