Cartersville High Principal to Resign

While he had no further comment, Jay Floyd confirmed he told faculty members he is leaving the post in June.

Cartersville Schools officials could be looking to fill one of the system's top jobs to begin the 2012-2013 school year.

While Cartersville High School Principal Jay Floyd declined further comment, he confirmed reports that he told faculty members he would not be back in the fall to continue his current role as principal.

Floyd also confirmed his resignation would be effective in June.

System spokesman Vivian Greene said officials knew of Floyd's announcement to faculty last week, but so far have not received his official resignation or any word on the reason or reasons.

A student notified Cartersville Patch of the development.

In July, Floyd was a finalist for superintendent of the Chattooga County school system, but turned down a job offer to continue as CHS principal, according to WBHF-AM 1450.

Assistant principal of Cartersville High from 2001 to 2003, Floyd has served as principal since 2004, according to The Summerville News. Previous to his employment with the local school system, Floyd held positions with Dalton Public Schools. He also serves or has severed on a number of boards and committees.
