An effort to help highlight the talents of local and regional artists and move Cartersville towards becoming a more art-focused community, Booth Western Art Museum's Downtown Gallery is set to open Friday and Saturday with receptions.
"We saw a need to have a space for talented artists associated with the Booth to sell their work," Executive Director Seth Hopkins said in a statement. "We also wanted a larger space to showcase the reproductions of artwork in the Booth collection we have for sale.
"Cartersville is becoming a destination for art experiences and Downtown Gallery gives them an opportunity to take art home with them."
Located at 13 N. Wall St. in downtown Cartersville, the gallery will sell original art by regional artists as well as prints, posters, books and sculpture by artists in the Booth Museum collection.
The public is invited to a pair of opening receptions set for 5 to 8 p.m. on both Friday, Oct. 5, and Saturday, Oct. 6. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the artists and be the first to purchase artwork.
Inventory at the Downtown Gallery exhibits will rotate every three months revolving around a selected theme. The opening theme is Artist’s Choice with selections available Oct. 5 through Dec. 31.
The opening show features 175 works of art by more than 100 artists, including 62 original paintings and 58 photographs by regional artists. All art in the Downtown Gallery is available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis.
Regular hours will be open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Regional artists who wish to show their art at the Downtown Gallery must be members of the Booth Artists Guild or Booth Photography Guild. For more information, contact the Downtown Gallery at 770-387-4330.
