Bartow Authorities Seek Fugitive Following Car, Foot Chase
Authorities describe Derrick Ramone Walker, 40, as a "dangerous fugitive" wanted in Tunnel Hill on numerous charges.
Bartow County sheriff's authorities are asking locals to be on the lookout for a "dangerous fugitive" last seen this morning near Red Top Mountain Road near Acworth and Cartersville.
Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a release police are looking for Derrick Ramone Walker, 40, of Avondale Estates, GA, following an incident early this morning.
About 3:30 a.m., Bartow 911 dispatchers received a call for service from Whitfield County's 911. Whitfield dispatchers had received a call from Walker, who is wanted for numerous offenses by Tunnel Hill police and said he was on Interstate 75 at exit 290 in Cartersville having suicidal thoughts.
Deputies found Walker in an allegedly stolen Saturn Vue and a chase ensued. Walker allegedly drove at high speeds and on the wrong side of the interstate before continuing onto Red Top Mountain Road and abandoning the car near the Waterside subdivision. He got away on foot and despite a search by deputies, was not found.
Walker is wanted on carjacking, aggravated assault and theft by taking in Tunnel Hill, a north Georgia city south of Chattanooga. He also now faces new charges in Bartow County—theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
Police say anyone who sees Walker should call 911 immediately because he should be considered a dangerous person. Millsap said he's increased patrols in the area until Walker is apprehended.
