Adairsville Student Gets Mercer Scholarship

Shane Harper received the Penfield Academic Scholarship.

An Adairsville High School student has received a scholarship to attend Mercer University in Macon.

Shane Harper received the Penfield Academic Scholarship, and university officials said the $23,000 annual academic scholarship is representative of Shane's high academic achievements.

Harper is the son of Bartow County School Superintendent John Harper. He has been named an AHS Honor Graduate as well as an Etowah Foundation Academic Super Star. He also has been a member of the AHS JROTC Tiger Battalion for four years, currently serving as the Battalion Executive Officer and having led the JROTC Drill Team's Armed Platoon for two years.

Other accomplishments include being a member of the Beta Club and United Community Bank of Adairsville's Junior Board of Directors. 

Since 1833, the "Mercer experience" has transformed the lives of thousands of individuals who, in turn, have transformed communities throughout the world. Generations of graduates have left Mercer to make a history of their own, including 12 governors, four United States senators, an attorney general of the United States, and numerous professionals.
