Actor, Cartersville Native Dies at 41

Benji Wilhoite, known for his role in the 1982 film "Six Pack," passed away Monday.

Family members of Benji Wilhoite say he was found Tuesday morning deceased in New York where he lived. The actor and singer leaves behind four children.

Wilhoite may be best known for the song Rocky Top Tennessee in the movie Six Pack, but also had roles in several films and TV movies and series, such as the 1989 film Glory and the 2005 film False River. Wilhoite also appeared in the TV series In the Heat of the Night three times.

His first role was in the TV movie Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones in 1980.

Family members say arrangements are being handled in New York, but friends in Cartersville are working to plan a local memorial service.
