Sheriff Clark Millsap, who didn't return a call from Cartersville Patch, told The Daily Tribune News the two officers "met with an armed assailant" when they entered the home, in which two people resided.
The GBI investigation continues and the drug task force deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome.

Nearly one month since a Paulding man died after Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force agents shot him during the execution of a search warrant, no arrests have been made as a result of the warrant and related investigation, Officials said agents shot Hammett after he raised his hands up in an aggressive manner while holding a black shiny object that was pointed toward agents; it was later determined that the object had been a canister of pepper spray.

Capt D, I had not gotten around to posting links to stories about that case from our friends at Dallas-Hiram Patch:
"Nearly one month since a Paulding man died after Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force agents shot him during the execution of a search warrant, no arrests have been made as a result of the warrant and related investigation.
Danny Hammett, 60, was shot by agents during the Oct. 17 incident. Hammett—full name Daniel John Thomas Hammett—succumbed to his injuries at Grady Hospital in Atlanta about an hour and a half after authorities executed the narcotics search warrant at a Nebo Road residence in Hiram. Officials said agents shot Hammett after he raised his hands up in an aggressive manner while holding a black shiny object that was pointed toward agents; it was later determined that the object had been a canister of pepper spray."

Personally, I feel that if a law officer is "properly trained" to ID a weapon, handle a stand off with out firing the first shot all the time and use some sort of non lethal force, be over the age of 40 and have the Lord Jesus deep in their heart, needless killing of everyday people will stop and the ones doing the killing MUST be held responsible. Go after the shooter in civil court, make them answer your questions under oath, drag them through as long as possible to get the truth. You know their "story" will make even a fish guilty of stealing water. These young guns are too trigger happy and "scared" when faced with danger.

The average citizen, in this economy, does not have the money to drag out law suits and court, unless they can obtain an attorney to work on percentage if case is won. This sounds good, but you have to remember, these officers must be required to pass "LYING 101". The first requirment to qualify for a position on the force.

We need to stop rushing to judgement about what happened. Let the GBI investigate. I am truly sorry someone did get shot, but we were not there in those exact minutes leading up to this shooting. LE has to make split second decisions. As far as ID Ing a weapon "excuse me could you please give us a second to examine your weapon before you shoot us?" Doesn't happen like that. And many times the weapon is being waved around. Lets wait for the facts not just speculation before making judgements and accusations.

The National Association of Police Chiefs is against the use of No-Knock Warrants, but our Sheriff is VERY MUCH for them. My son is a Police Officer and very much against them. When I questioned our Sheriff about them in a local Doctors office he became so agitated he actually pulled his weapon and started waving it around and using it to point in his description of why they were needed. When people bust in your house with masks on and dressed in black , of course you're going to resist. This is beyond nuts.

Sorry but 66 is not "elderly". She is still quite capable of killing the officers with the gun she pointed at them. I am sorry she got shot, but it does make you want to be very careful who is living with you and can they be brining criminal activity into your home. 66 is elderly and anyone should be able to draw a weapon in their home against intruders! Break my door down and be prepared to meet my gun...as far as assuming her guilt by who she had living with her, it clearly stated she lived alone. They went to the completely wrong street! Wingfoot and evergreen should not be easily confused! My prayers are with her family! No one should be above the law. I hope justice will be served!

Sounds like another case where someone is leaking information about a police shooting while there is still a investigation going on. Too many times we read this leaking of information and its always one trying to convince the other that all is justified.Does any law enforcement ever use tear gas anymore? Worked for many years. Are there other ways than a total distruction of life, family, house's, and any other object in the way just to get inside a house when they "watch it" for so long. Can they not go in with their warrant when no one is home, to prevent another death, so they can go and search without killing someone? Why do they set a person up for a raid and meet them with a death squad? If what they do in the performance of their duty is so totally legal, then video's with audio should and must be provided within 1 hr of this type of crime, so coverup is not possible so all of America can see with their own eyes what happened and who did what when, and had what when.
CLUBFV

Lucian. What you say makes sense in places but it would be a foolhardy cop who would bring teargas to a gunfight. The patrol deputies there have body cameras that record both audio and video. Those involved should have been wearing them.

I do not use or condone the use of drugs and say yes to stop the spreading of these drugs, I realize the officers have a family to go home to, but it seems to be a better way to enter and control without deadly force. They dress like the military, use very sophisticated devices, and should have the same outcome as our Tactical units they copy. Why force the outcome, wait for the right time when you can capture what your after. More training is needed and repeated every week, every week of the year. As a former 462XX I'm aware of major weapon systems, maintaining them, loading and clearing them. Transporting all types of armament and support equipment. And we had 30 min's to get them cleared, maintained, and reloaded for another mission, Training all day, 7 days a week made us professional in what we did! Drop yourself in a "no lone zone" under a " 2 man concept" and see the outcome. Not one of us is better than another as we all are "Made in His image".

We here were looking and discussing ways this unit could be more efficient without blowing a head off, maybe aim for the hand that’s got the weapon if your target shooting is so perfect. After what I just read about where she was shot, that takes a special human being to do that, then go eat dinner and look their mother in the face, like it was a daily task. We train these men to handle dangerous situations with drug dealers and serving these no knock warrants, then we send them out all charged up, What do we expect? We all find it hard to believe that a 66 year old grandmother would deal drugs and carry a gun. But young gun totting drug dealers grow up to be old drug dealers with guns. I want to know what the evidence against this women was and did they find a quanity of drugs to determine if she was in trueth selling drugs from her home. First, the 66 year old woman most likely didn't realize that these men "breaking in" her home were police. Second, if someone broke into your house, you would defend yourself too. Drugs in a house is not worth killing someone over. Other crimes are much worse! I lived at one time in Jonesboro, GA and had something similar happen. Two SWAT officers shone their flashlights into the window of my teenage daughter and my husband went outside the front door with a shotgun. The officers scolded my husband for doing that saying that they could have shot him. But look how dangerous it is for the police to do these things.

I have very much respect for law enforcement and what they face every day laying their lives on the line for us. There are some good officers. That being said I witnessed the DTForce arrest a young man in broad daylight when I was at church with 30 children. They were driving nice trucks and sub's drove through elderly people's yards had on tactical uniforms like they were after a kingpin or serial killer. I later found out it was because he had marijuana
A waste of taxpayers money was what that was. My real point is what was done in the dark could have been done in the light. There had just been a home invasion the day before around the corner from the lady the day before by fake cops

Maybe a no-knock warrant could be understandable when a known violent offender, who is KNOWN to be arned is holed-up in a house, but hell no...concern that someone may flush some drugs is NO REASON to kill them. As far as I'm concerned, the only legitimate reason for a no-knock warrant would be if law enforcement has compelling knowledge that an occupant of the building is in immediate danger of being killed or seriously injured by another occupant in the building.
Otherwise, it is blatant disregard for human life, both the officers and occupants and just serves as a legal loophole to execute citizens without due process for trivial reasons.
While I agree that if a law enforcement officer has reasonable and justifiable cause to use deadly force when he is reasonably in fear for his life, whoever authorized and ordered the officers to enter the premises with a no-knock warrant when no person's life was in jeopardy should be held liable in both criminal and civil legal proceedings.

Deal in vice and pay the price. Everyone on evergreen is a drug dealer. The old lady is dead cause she pointed a gun at cops who were there legally. People need to submit to lawful orders from the police. And these officers who had to shoot her are not cold blooded. If you never walk in thier shoes then how do you know how they feel?
