11 Bartow Projects Make Preliminary T-SPLOST List

Projects ranging from intersection improvements to new highways were approved by the Northwest Regional Transportation Roundtable.

Numerous and road projects that would be funded with a 1-cent special transportation sales tax met with preliminary approval, according to Investing in Tomorrow's Transportation Today, Georgia's transportation planning and implementation arm as a result of the Transportation Investment Act of 2010.

The Northwest Georgia Regional Transportation Roundtable, which includes Bartow County Commissioner Clarence Brown and Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini, was tasked with approving an investment list of projects.

Local road projects on the list, some of which would be only partially funded by T-SPLOST, are:

  • Intersection reconstruction at Cass-White Road and Interstate 75;
  • Improvements to Douthit Ferry Road from West Avenue to Old Alabama Road;
  • Widening and improvements to Emerson's Old Alabama Road;
  • The partial relocation of GA 20 from Interstate 75 to U.S. 411;
  • Railway crossing improvements on Richards Road;
  • Improvements to GA 140 from Oothkalooga Creek to U.S. 41;
  • GA 140 improvements from GA 53 to Oothkalooga Creek;
  • Improvements to the intersection at U.S. 411 and Stamp Creek Road;
  • Construction of the U.S. 411 Connector; and
  • Improvements to U.S. 41 from Main Street to GA 61.

See the .pdf file attached to this article for full descriptions, maps and projected costs of the projects. In addition, officials hope to use $7 million in T-SPLOST money to provide public transportation services in the region.

Known as the Northwest Coordinated Rural/Human Services Transit Project, the measure would fund a regional Mobility Manager and provide money for capital expenditures and operational and maintenance needs for rural and human services transportation.

The roundtable will review the list, including taking input from the public at hearings, before the final approval is due Oct. 15.

The Northwest Regional Commission set a public hearing on the proposed projects for Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the .

Voters will decide the proposed 1-cent sales tax in July 2012.
