Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said in an email alcohol was involved in the fatal crash.

William David Hannah, 27, of Acworth, was killed in the crash at Kings Camp Road at Allatoona Woods Trail. Wright said Hannah was a passenger in a 1984 GMC pickup truck that had slowed to make a left turn from Kings Camp onto Allatoona Woods.

As it turned, the truck was hit from behind by a 2000 Ford Focus, which caused it to travel left and strike a utility pole. Hannah was partially ejected and died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, Joseph Thomas Long, 41, also of Acworth, was injured and airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment. A second passenger, who authorities have not yet identified, was taken by ground ambulance to Kennestone Hospital.

Wright said Timothy Michael Van Hoose, 33, of Acworth, the driver of the Ford Focus, has been charged with DUI and first-degree vehicular homicide. Other charges are pending.

Hoose also was injured and taken to Cartersville Medical Center
